BJP convenes urgent meeting after split with BJD

After withdrawing support to the BJD-led government in Orissa, the saffron party has convened an urgent meeting of its central officers-bearers on Sunday to discuss the future course of action.

"The party's central leadership will come out with an official response on the issue only after the meeting of its office-bearers," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said on Saturday.

Party president Rajnath Singh will be present on the occasion.

BJP's prime ministerial candidate L K Advani, who is out of the capital and is scheduled to address a public rally in Dehradun on Sunday, is likely to rush back as soon as possible.

Talks between Naveen Patnaik's BJD and BJP over seat-sharing in Orissa, where assembly and Lok Sabha polls are being held simultaneously, ran into rough weather when the saffron party demanded more Lok Sabha seats.

In 2004, BJD had contested 12 Lok Sabha seats while BJP was in the fray in nine. BJP was reportedly demanding 11 seats and in lieu of this had offered 25 seats out of its share of 63 to BJD in the 147-seat Orissa assembly.
